Secretary Clinton will be in the spotlight, literally, this Sunday morning. Back from Asia, she'll be on NBC's Meet the Press for the entire hour!

•Speaking of the spotlight, a New York Times headline today declares: "Asia Trip Propels Clinton Back into Limelight." (And yes, I know that many of you say she never ever was out of the limelight -- the "shadows" thing was all concocted.)

•Clinton has just "taken Asia by storm" with a tour that is "undeniably a success in public-relations and policy terms," a college professor writes in a Scripps Howard News Service op-ed.

•Clinton is viewed as the most intelligent first lady in a Harris Poll that asked about 11 first ladies from Eleanor Roosevelt through Michelle Obama (minus Elizabeth Truman and Mamie Eisenhower for some reason). Regarding the 11 first ladies, 29 percent of respondents said Clinton was most intelligent; Roosevelt was second with 13 percent, and Obama was third with 11 percent.

•Regarding this week's verbal jousting between Clinton and North Korea, a Washington Post Style article compares Clinton to the archetypal schoolyard "overachiever" and North Korea to the schoolyard's "socially inept loner."

•Hillary fans aren't going to like this one: A Boston Globe editorial accuses Clinton of "rookie mistakes" during her Asia trip.

How nice to learn that the Boston Globe is still publishing

We don't hear often from the Athens of America that the local paper is still publishing. Isn't it nice that they have their own editorials and everything, just like a real newspaper.

That Boston Globe editorial

That Boston Globe editorial kind of takes things out of context and it's a bit suspect because it doesn't mention a single positive thing about her trip.

What they refer to as "backtracking" may actually be "clarifying" which hardly sounds so damaging.

Clinton's "nuclear umbrella" statement was hardly anything other than common sense- the mistake was not Clinton's, it was Israel's leaders (then picked up by the pundits and media in the US) who made a big deal about it trying to claim this was some sort of new policy towards Iran and I'm not really sure how they came to that interpretation- the way I took it was that Iran engaging in full scale nuclear war with anyone in the region was a zero-sum-game given Israel and the US have nukes (she didn't come out and say that but that's what I took it to mean). Also, where in her statement did she say the administration had "accepted" a nuclear Iran? Nowhere.

And with Burma/Myanmar she was simply using a carrot-and-stick approach.

Is the Boston Globe really trying to claim that a Secy of State NEVER makes a verbal gaffe (which I don't think it was) and NEVER has to clarify everything. Hello? Remember Condi Rice and her 'mushroom cloud' comment? That was hardly diplomatic.

I think her trip was a HUGE success and as Preeti points out, most of the commentary has been overwhelmingly positive.

The Boston Globe

Should be ignored. A rag paper at best. I thought she did a wonderful job on Meet the Press today. Answered every question thrown at her by David Gregory, and was in total control.
