Actually, what a cute picture of them! I saw another nice one from last night, too. I never expected to see these two this conciliatory , but I think Bibi knows he has a friend in Hillary.
I was a bit disappointed with this much-hyped meeting between Obama and Netanyahu. Netanyahu did not embrace the US policy of pursuing a two state solution, nor did they even signal a willingness to stop expanding settlement or allowing increased amounts of food and supplies (ie. humanitarian aid *funded* in large part by the US) into Gaza, which currently is set to become even more of a breeding ground for extremism. And yet Obama agreed to some sort of timetable for talks with Iran, which I think is a big huge red herring which should be dealt with separately from the Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts.
I feel like we are heading down the same path we did prior to the Iraq War- there is so much pressure from neoconservatives to use military force against Iran despite conflicting intelligence regarding the status of Iran's program. If I were Israel, I'd be a bit more worried about Pakistan right about now, which *has* working nukes and which is heavily leaning towards total government meltdown.
Regardless of disagreements, Israel and the US will always remain very strong allies, and that is as it should be. But sometimes, we have to nudge our friends along too.
*******
Secretary Clinton
