I don't remember ANY SoS being as busy as our Hillary. I am so proud of her, and I love her so much, but I think she needs some rest right about now. Bill should take her someplace nice for an extra-long weekend.
Hillary chased the taleban from Buner
It looks like a lot of people were listening to Hillary the last couple of days. Even the taleban have been somehow convinced to leave Buner and go back to the Swat Valley where they have been granted free reign. This may be an indication of how much more effective a strong diplomatic corps is compared to the military in getting results - and cheaper.
Sometimes it feels like diplomacy has been ceded to the likes of the British in places like Pakistan and India, the former British colonies, which, I am sure, is not anything the Brits would complain about (it is cheaper than maintaining a $500 billion a year military).
Of course, it could also mean that the taleban are so much a part of the government that they will obey orders from the Pakistani military to retreat when it looks like their forrays are hurting more than they are helping to keep the aid dollars flowing.
Or it could be a little bit of both.
