Hillary: The Movie, the anti-Hillary documentary created by the conservative group Citizens United, is the subject of arguments at the U.S. Supreme Court today. The court will determine whether such type of political movies should be regulated the way that political ads are during election seasons.
More from the Associated Press here.
Preeti, I think the quotation marks are around the wrong word. I think they should be around "movie" since that's the issue. Is this a movie or a long political commercial? According to McCain-Feingold, it is a political spot, not a movie.
I don't think the issue is free speech, as the complainant states. He can say what he wants, but there are restrictions, not on what he says, but on how statements are contextualized and framed.
This is not a documentary. It's a long political advertisement. He should have kept his fat camera off of Hillary.
A bit OT - a new CNN poll finds Secretary Clinton's poll numbers/job approval are very high, which is great and not surprising at all given how well-received she has been by world leaders and those in diplomatic circles.

The Neanderthals' "Movie" shows their desperation--and Fear!
Well, one thing can be said with cartesian certainty--the lovely neanderthals that gave the world 8 years of misery and catastrophic legacy, are getting desperate!
How could they not fear someone who's outshone them in every respect. Who else could have managed the aversion of a bloody civil strife in Pakistan that would have left the country vulnerable and weakened it considerably? Hillary's personal intervention and conversations with President Ali Zardari produced the phenomenal result of reinstating the deposed Supreme Justice Iftikhar Choudhry. The Opposition leader Nawaz Sharif's demands were ready to throw the Pakistani government and plunging the country into "deep political chaos".
Hillary called both President Zardari and Mr. Sharif and "urged them to adopt non-violent means to resolve the crisis and start a dialogue....and reinstate Justice Choudhry".
It is interesting that Zardari's wife, the late Benazir Bhutto, was yet another "close personal friend" of Hillary's and her husband, now President, never fogot Hillary's brave kindness in inviting her to the White House for dinner--when Hillary's own husband and the political minions surrounding them insisted she withdraw her invitation to the then (unwanted) Bhutto. Hillary, of course, being HIllary, didn't comply with the request to treat Bhutto as a 'politicla leper' and went ahead and had a lovely afternoon with her and giving her much-needed shelter when Benazir really needed it. And, naturally, her husband was, and is, most appreciative!
Ah, Hillary, the Global Diplomat with a heart--and idiosyncratic steel resolve.
So, let the repugnant republicanos launch their pathetic campaign advertising in the so-called "Hillary movie". This is, after all, a woman who's still standing after being stoned by both the republican neanderthals and her own treacherous party--not to mention daily stonings by the media misogynist "leg thrillers" of the Matthews-Olbermann pea-brained variety.
And we suspect she'll be standing for a long time after the 'sound and fury signifying nothing' has subsided in the Washington circus' echo chambers.
