Dear readers-
Many thanks for your questions and e-mails about this blog. We are in the process of figuring out the best way forward for Madam Secretary, and appreciate your continued patience.
In the meantime, consider this an open thread.

I'm glad this thread is still
I'm glad this thread is still active because there are obviously many of us who want to share thoughts and comments about Hillary as SOS. I'm interested to know how you are reacting to remarks that Hillary made some kind of rookie diplomatic blunder in expressing the reality of the uncertainty of the leadership succession in North Korea. I'm particularly thinking of Steve Clemons who was quoted as saying that such open discussion was inviting a coup there, would offend the Chinese and would upset multilateral talks.
His disdain for Hillary (he thought Chuck Hagel should have been SOS) and his contempt are evident in his blog, the washington note, where he has very little good to say about her. He is a member in good standing of the "cocktail weenie set" and he is apparently some one with insider contacts in the diplomatic and state dept. world.
Sorry to go on so..but I think I feel better now that I've said all that!
You are so right and it is
You are so right and it is indeed really unusual that this thread is still active. Lets see for how long.
I noticed the abbreviation SOS. Its soo ambivalent. Hillary will not only be the Secretary of State, but also save our souls. Thats great :-)
Nice thought
I had been thinking S-O-S as in "save our ship" (of state) - but I like your acronym, too.
SOS
Hey Still4Hill, right now it looks more to me that the USA is like a container ship than the Titanic. Slow and cramped.
But your administration will get rid of the ballast and finally speed up again.
Sometimes you just have to rant
There is not a single official thing Hillary says or does that has not been carefully considered, discussed, and planned. That same level of preparation that we saw in her hearing, maybe even more than that, is going into her meetings and conferences on this trip. That plane is a flying office and she is working her staff hard.
They always want to paint her as some floozy little blonde airhead. She has a brilliant mind and a memory like a steel trap - nothing this important escaped her lips by accident, and SHE IS NO FOREIGN POLICY ROOKIE! 80+ TRIPS AS 1ST LADY!!
Whew! Now I feel better too :-)
Airhead!
Still4Hill said:
"They always want to paint her as some floozy little blonde airhead."
***********
LOL! Still4Hill, that is the funniest comment I've ever seen! No one could ever be less of an airhead than Hillary Clinton, who has famously been put down as the ultimate policy wonk by all of her detractors. Her enemies really do want to have it both ways -- she's either intellectual to a fault, or she's the ultimate airhead. She can't win, according to some people. Luckily for her and for us, she could care less what they call her. She will just "keep going". Let them say.
Hillary's just another Floozy Little Blonde Airhead!...
Gosh, wish all floozy little blonde airheads were like Hillary! What a world this would be, eh? Lady Clairol would have to reinvent its marketing strategy....
To all who keep this thread alive - You are great !!!
Viele Grüße aus Deutschland.
Grüße
Hi, Tifom,
Grüße aus New York City! :-D
What part of Deutschland are you from? I think it's great that we have international Hillary fans on here!
Hey, ich komme aus Köln
Hey,
ich komme aus Köln (Cologne) and I was always a huge fan of Hillary. She is so amazing and always will be!
Hopefully she comes to Germany soon. Must see! Maybe I write her an email and ask her for a coffeebreak :-)
Why do you speak german?
Deutsch
Hey, Tifom,
I studied German in college many years ago. I wish I had studied it more, because we don't really hear much German spoken in New York City. I also studied French and Portuguese. I have tried to keep up some of my German skills, but I am very rusty.
One day I would like to visit Germany and talk to the German people in their language. :-) Meanwhile, I also hope Hillary goes to Germany soon! Yes, invite her for coffee!
I am impressed!
Wow, I knew you were clever, but German, French and Portugues: Thats quite a lot! Bye the way, I really like your comments you do in this thread. Maybe you should take over here :-)
Vielen Dank
Hallo, Tifom!
Vielen Dank for the kind words. I would only take over this blog if I could have help from everyone else who posts on here! :-)
Hillary's fans are "simply the best, better than all the rest". (Remember when that Tina Turner song played after she made her campaign suspension speech? What a moment!)
I'm in...
... if you need help.
Danke!
Sehr gut! =:-D
Danke, mein friend
Dankeschoen! I took a highschool course in Beginner's German. Wish I had proceeded further in my studies! Deutschland ist gut, ya, and Angela Market is thriving...she certainly another Floozy Little Blonde Airhead like Hillary! She speaks Russian fluently and has a Doctorate in Astrophysics I believe....and she's showing the European big boys a whole new game....gutten
FP really lost out
You guys really dropped the ball by not having this blog up and running during this first official trip. Any one of the commenters here probably could have been doing daily entries for you and you would have had traffic. Are you out of your minds? When Condi was SoS - how many fans and followers did she have? Now we have a Rock Star/Glamor Girl SoS the whole world is crazy about doing her first official trip with huge press coverage, and your blog lies fallow?
At least we can still post here
Still4Hill,
As I said in an earlier post, this has been a hell of a time for this blog to go on hiatus, but they are having a staff shakeup at FP, according to an article posted by another commenter. So, there is an internal reason why they are not updating this blog.
I do think that's a drag, coming right on top of Hill's first trip as SOS. But I also think it's good of them to let us run around here on an open thread. It's not the best it could have been, but it's decent of them nevertheless. JMO.
Point well-taken
You are right. (Apologies all around - Thanks FP).
Give FP a triple dose Caffeine! Enough rest! Carolyn, come back!
What's taking so long? I didn't know FP editors were invited by Empress Michoko for tea in Japan! Didn't you guys have enough time already to figure out your MADAM SECRETARY blogging strategy? Or is it that you're ignoring the real need for us visitors at FP's Madam Sec. to get our Hillary dosage?
WAKE UP, FP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thx, Still-4-Hill & NCCgirl! And Hillary looked great in Japan!
I just read your post and, yes, perhaps FP has to sort out its internal staffing. We can wait and yes, it's a terrible time for this to happen...but we can wait.
"Hillary's Grassroots Campaign/Hillary Clinton News" blog has 3 great vids on Hillary's visit to Japan...tea time with the Empress (she rarely grants interviews but she calls Hill "my great old friend"), South Korea and a great vid of her "Democracy Speech" in Indonesia....By the way, Hillary looked absolutely great, perhaps the best I've seen her in, in a black suit with white pearls--her hair style is also upgraded and softer--and looked absolutely stunning in shaking the Japanese minister's hand. The woman has class, charisma and dignity.
Hillary Diane would have surely made the best Prez by far....but what the heck... let's hope Barack's 17,000 troops in Afganistan guard the pipelines well enough for the poor oil companies that can't afford to hire a private army....ah....first Iraq....now Afganistan....and p-l-e-a-s-e do tell me once more that the 17,000 poor souls were sent there to ensure that the little Afghani girls have a safe, uninterrupted bus ride to Democratic schools in the region.....
Hillary is looking great
sakel,
I agree that Hillary is looking spectacular these days. She really has looked stunning throughout the entire Asia Tour. She is obviously in her element and enjoying all of the hard work, and as she has said, she really loves representing the American people. I remember how dragged down and tired she looked after the convention. Thankfully, she has bounced back. She really is getting better every day. She is truly a class act.
I swear...
...she FEEDS on this hard work. It makes her sparkle! Looking gorgeous representing us! I am so proud of her beautiful American image. Yes - tea with the empress. Only Hillary could have done all this in a week.
I'm posting every day until
I'm posting every day until FP gets it's act together. As our President's approval ratings start to go South, I'd be curious what Hillary's are right about now...
Yes, keep going
Carolyn-Rodham,
By all means, we should keep posting here indefinitely as long as the kind folks at FP have lent us their blog.
I would like to know Hill's approval ratings are now, too. If anyone has that info, please post a link.
Even Huff Post exalts Hillary's virtues...now...
Even Huffington Post (recently the beneficiary of $25 million from the Wall St. panhandlers) has acknowledged Hillary's magnificence as a competent SoS that's put a human face to this hitherto guileless, graceless, godless job...Read Kansas City Star Feb 22...see below....
Amazing that Hillary has survived not only the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy but the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy...and is thriving. Tells a lot about a woman's ability to ENDURE....She's the best 'Global Diplomat for women and girls everywhere. Let's hope the neophyte Jock-in-Chief (headline on Men's Journal Magazine) appreciates this. But pray tell, why is it invariably that in any business or government settings it's the Male Anorexic Resume that gets the job and not the Competent Experienced Female, eh? Will things change much in another 50 years or have we come a long way to nowhere....
Heidi Li's 51% blog has given me some hope that perhaps one day the road bumps will disappear...perhaps our great-great granddaughers' time....Till then, the Bro's will reign....
Through the roof
I hope ;)
Message for Tifom
Sorry to post this here, but I have no other way of reaching Tifom:
Hi, Tifom,
I tried to send an email to you at the address listed on your blog, but my message was returned to me. I have had trouble posting comments on your blog. I can only log in as "Anonymous". But when I do that, my comments do not appear even though I get a message saying that my comment has been published. I also cannot read other people's comments because they do not appear. Only the name of the commenter appears. I don't know if anyone else has had trouble with those features on your blog ...
Beautiful blog, anyway!
Fixed.
Hallo NYCgirl,
I have noticed the problem you mentioned and changed it already. It should work by now.
Thank you for the info!
PS: Thanks also for the flowers :-)

Clinton Faces Typical Double Standard In South Korea Questions

True, but ...
It's true that there's a double standard. But on the other hand, who really cares about Colin Powell's views on love or his beauty secrets? People are really curious about Hillary on a personal level, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

It's ridiculous now.
What's the matter with the FP staff. I can't believe it. It has been two weeks, I think. Why no one takes over this? FP doesn't have an editor to do this job???
Internal shakeup at FP
Hi, sweetycat,
In case you missed it, another commenter further up in this thread posted a link to an article that talked about an internal staff shakeup at FP. Several people have left (including Carolyn O'Hara who used to run this blog) and have not yet been replaced. FP is doing us a favor by keeping this thread open and letting us post at random. They could have just shut this blog down entirely. I for one am thankful that they have lent us their Hillary blog for a couple of weeks while they regroup. So, even though it's exasperating, let's all continue to post until they can come up with someone to take over permanently! We can handle it! :-)
"Clinton Cuts a New Style in U.S. Diplomacy"--Kansas City Star
Tim Johnson's column (Feb. 22) sums up accurately the real diplomatic impact of the new SoS' visits to Asia. She was treated like a rock star at Ewha University in Seoul, reminding the young women there of their common (Scranton Methodist) links. She was a big hit at the Jakarta MTV-type show where she said she felt more "like an advice columnist than a SoS". I liked her candid remark to the rural women activists gathered in China to hear her (at great government risk it seems to at least one of them):
"In no society, including my own, are women treated equally yet..." drawing applause.
Significantly, she's able to link magnetically it seems with the people in these countries, especially the women who seem to know a lot about HIllary. One of the Chinese older women said that her daughter had taught her one sentence when she visited during the primary: "Hope you win". But when the woman actually shook hands with Hillary last year, she froze and forgot to say it. She said ot Hillary a couple of days ago: "Maybe if I had managed to say this to you, you'd have won!". Ah the women of China!...
It was also reported that the chief bureaucrat on foreign policy in China (feared by his colleagues for his immense government powers), upon meeting Hillary, said: "You look far more attractive and beautiful in real life than on TV..." Hillary appeared to be blushing at first, but quickly recovered, touching her shoulder and responding:
"Well, it looks like we will get along very well"...to the amusement and laughter of the "leg thrillers" surrounding the pair....
The AP press has a great story, too. What an amazingly unaffected, PEOPLE'S SoS Hillary is, eh? We knew it up here in Canada all along! Hillary is one in a billion. She's amazingly competent without losing the common touch. The little girl who wanted to be an astronaut at 13 is in the stratosphere of Diplomacy where she belongs. And the most effective GLOBAL Ambassador for Women's Rights everywhere! Bravo!
Now, let's hope the Foreign Policy guys (don't see any female names on masthead yet!) revise their policy and break their Madam Secretary silence.
Thanks for the summary
sakel,
Thanks for the summary of those articles. Wow! China must have been a great experience for her. Knowing that she made such a splash there before when she spoke about women's rights, she must have wondered what the response would be now. I'm happy to see the admiration she has gotten throughout her trip.
You mentioned this: "It was also reported that the chief bureaucrat on foreign policy in China ..., upon meeting Hillary, said: "You look far more attractive and beautiful in real life than on TV..." That line comes on top of an article I read recently that said the German foreign minister confessed to "having a crush" on Hillary! This is truly amazing stuff! =:-D
Reference to media as 'leg thrillers' thanks to Matthews.....
I should have been clearer. I referred to the media as "leg thrillers" as I have not been able to bring myself to refer to them as 'journalists' or 'media' since Chriss Matthews and Keith Olbermann's pathetic "leg thrilling" masquerade as 'reporters' during the primaries....I'm sure you remember that Matthews said he felt anatomically incorrect "leg thrills" whenever he heard Obama's speech while Olbermann instructed his listeners that Hillary be "taken out on a shed" and harshly and terminally dealt with!...Ah the "leg thrilling" fun of being a contemplative journalist, eh?! And the boys are still talking...even though their ratings are dropping...
Must read: David Rothkopf: "Clinton Scores Big in China" 02/23
Rothkopf is one of these rare journalists, it seems, that believes in reporting the truth. His astute analysis of the Hillary naysers' (non)expectations and the true impact of Hillary Clinton's Asian trip make his article well worth reading! His is the most realistic assessment of Hillary's recent success. He's the type of journalist who wouldn't hesitate to be critical, as a matter of fact he can be brutal, but would not sacrifice his ethics for the sake of being just another media hack or "leg thriller". (His writing confirms my suspiction that Hillary's a National Treasure....)
WTF?
Hillary is in freaking Asia and FP mag can't bestir themselves to comment? What the problem ? She's working out too well?
They're still waiting ...
Hi, Annetoo,
According to an article posted by a commenter further upthread, there was a staff shakeup at FP recently. Several staffers left and have not yet been replaced, including the editor of this blog, Carolyn O'Hara. So, apparently FP is still waiting for someone to take over this blog.
Meanwhile, FP has been good enough to let us borrow their blog. So, WE CLINTONISTAS ARE THE ONES IN CHARGE OF THE COMMENTS! (... for now!) ;-)
Huffingtonpost......... which
Huffingtonpost......... which I rarely read..........
We will call this Part 1 and Part 2 of this post.
I find it personally to be a waste of time reading Huffintonpost ,
I need the Freedom to think, they more than often cross that
line and feel they need to help we poor American's out.
Instead of facts and allowing logic to run the course they
do what I call selective reporting...... Spin and damage
control most of the time...... But, here goes..... I did read
this article.......

PART 1........... hmmmmmm interesting.....
I would like to put out an all points bulletin on Chairman Tim Kaine.
We are now more than a month into Barack Obama's presidency and there is little or no evidence that a national Democratic Party structure exists. Gov. Kaine, who was appointed Chairman of the Democratic Party by President Obama on January 8th, has been missing in action. He was nowhere to be seen during the battle to pass the stimulus bill. He was nowhere to be seen during the public relations fiascos that surrounded the withdrawals of several cabinet appointees. He is nowhere to be seen now as the President sets about attempting to move his agenda and convince the American people that we have turned the corner and their lives are going to begin to improve.
What's up with that?
I know that President Obama has been busy, what with finding the lights switches and passing legislation to save an economy that is in possibly the worst downward spiral in history. I know that President Obama likes to think of himself as post-partisan. I know he wants to engage the American people directly -- much as he did during the campaign. But seriously, Mr. President, this isn't going to work.
************************** What follows is
PART 2 of the Article........... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm BULL$HIT
"When public and congressional support for the stimulus package began to falter -- owing largely to the Congressional Republicans having an identity crisis and putting positioning themselves for 2010 before saving the country's economy"
****************************************
LETS GET REAL....................... support for the Bill by the American people was 37%....... and it was the Pork and the Rush........
and that my dear Huffington Post with your head up your a$$ most of the time is the FACT.
****************************************
"It wasn't until the following day that someone finally stepped up to a microphone and said, " hey, wait a minute, wasn't it you guys, who controlled not just the White House and at least one of the Chambers of Congress for the last eight years who drove this economy into the ditch? Wasn't it you guys who dismantled most of the regulatory framework that might have prevented much of the financial industry mess that we now face? " And the person who stepped up was the President himself."
******************************************
IS ANYONE LAUGHING AT THIS YET............ OR MAYBE YOU DIDN'T SEE THE JOKE IN ALL THIS.............
BUT THEN...... IT IS NOT FUNNY.
**************************************
OBAMA..... you are part of "YOU GUYS" that drove all this into the ditch.................... you have been in the Senate for the past 4 years
and have never failed to not vote for a spending Bill. You were voted the most liberal Senator in the Senate.
The Democrats dominated congress..... both House and Senate for the past 2 years.
And, when they Republicans..... and Democrats ...... Bipartisan....... stepped up 2 years ago to put regulations on Fanny and Freddy...
you walked away...... you did not take action....... WHY.....??
AND....... YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO SAY "YOU GUYS"
NOW CAN YOU SEE THE JOKE? STILL NOT LAUGHING........ me neither it is not funny.
************************************************************
You continue to obtain your news from media sources such as the Huffington Post... you get what you pay for.
Nadine's HuffPost summary provides astute commentary...
Nice to find astute analysis and critical commentary of the Jock-in-Chief's (Men's Journal Magazine front cover on "Trash-Talking Prez"...) recent epiphany...Yet he did sit on his hands with Nancy condoning the Fannie May mess and allowing the Bush neanderthals to deregulate and derail the economy of the world....
Interviewed by the CBC's Peter Mansbridge last week, Barack said he "believes in Diplomacy and development and not Military solutions..." Yet just a few hours before his interview, the Jock-in-Chief had authorized the deployment of Seventeen Thousand (17,000) troops to Afganistan! If that ain't talkin' from both sides of his jock-mouth, I don't know what it was...Guess we have to get an opinion on this from his former mentor in Ill., Sen. Alice Palmer. She'd set us straight, if not Him!
Obama will Address the Nation on the Budget
His address to the Nation............ just guessing but
he will highlight the below.
1. I inherited this debt.
2. George Bush is responsible for all the spending.
3. This administration failed to have regulations.
4. I will save money by ending the War in Iraq.
5. I will cut the our debt in half by the end of my term.
6. His budget will have efforts to restore fiscal discipline.
1.
Unlike all the presidents in the past 40 years...... he was part of all of this "He inherited"
The Democrats dominated Congress for the past 2 years... but he was in the Senate for
the past 4 years. He voted for every spending Bill. He is responsible for what he
claims he inherited and he will take an active responsibility for what follows.
He was voted the most liberal Senator in the Senate.........
The Democrats were at the wheel driving that bus you keep saying landed in the ditch.
2. Presidents only sign the Bills that
reach their desk....... or veto......... George Bush should have vetoed more.
But, he didn't pass all the Spending........... Congress did.... OBAMA AND
HIS FELLOW LEGISLATORS...... Maybe we should look at who was
voting NO.......... McCain a Republican along with many others
were voting NO......... McCain voted "yes" 18% of the time, Obama
voted "yes" 80% of the time..... so lay off the Republicans......
AND I AM A DEMOCRAT SAYING ALL THIS........
Lets start with taking responsibility for your part along with other
Democrats.
3. Obama in the Senate for 4 years and, 2 years ago when Bipartisan ......
Democrat and Republican..... came to
the Senate floor to put regulations on Fanny and Freddy, Obama walked away
from it. WHY?
FROM HIS LIPS YOU WILL HEAR HOW THE FAULT WITH WHAT HE INHERITED
WAS FROM
LACK OF REGULATIONS......
4. How do you save borrowed money?
How do you make borrowed money an asset?
THE MONEY FOR BOTH OF THESE WARS IS BORROWED MONEY.
5. Will he tell us that the tax cuts expire in 2 years?
6. You mean like no Pork? .. Can you say 5 Billion dollars to
ACORN in the Stimulus Package? ACORN, dishonest, fraud and
voter violations in almost every state..... now that is organization.
It was taken out by the Senate and the Bill went back to the
House..... they put it back in with different wording and a new
heading. This was all given to the Senate for the final vote
at 11:30 PM the night before voting...... all 1,700 pages of it.
($ Half Billion dollars a page)
AND HOW ABOUT TAKING A LEADERSHIP ROLE AND WRITING THE
BILLS YOURSELF? NOT IN THE HANDS OF BUSINESS AS USUAL
CONGRESS?
CHANGE?????? YES WE CAN????????????
Or is it Yes We Can but I don't know how?
DOES THIS SOUND MEAN? NO IT SOUNDS ANGRY.
And, by the way........ on the Regulation problems?
You Tube....... Canadian....... the American one has been moved or
removed.
Timeline shows Bush, McCain warning Dems of financial and housing crisis; meltdown

Hallo!
Hallo, Tifom!
Thanks for the German phrases! I have German learning CDs, but of course, I never have time to listen to them! But I must take the time to brush up on my German, so I am glad you are giving us some practice! :-)
Learning CDs are boring - Listen to German Musik ( No RumTaTa)
What about German music? I will be in concert next week and listen to Annett Louisan. She sings in german, easy pop with jazz and her voice is just charming.

Hey, Tifom,
I actually do listen to German-language music! Thanks for your suggestions. You will be in concert? Are you a musician? Maybe you can play for Hillary!
I will email you privately tomorrow about your musical suggestions. I'll talk to you later, Tifom! =:-D
CNN Analysis: Clinton's mockery of Obama proves true
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- During the most contentious stretch of the Democratic presidential primary campaign last winter, then-candidate Hillary Clinton mocked Barack Obama for his pledge to transcend Washington's entrenched partisanship.
"The sky will open. The lights will come down. Celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect!"
Clinton bellowed.
