Remnants of a busy day at Foggy Bottom
Tue, 01/27/2009 - 6:43pm
- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that he and Hillary Clinton plan to meet prior to April 2's G-20 meeting in London. He called his conversation with Clinton "constructive."
- Clinton today called the Six Party Talks on North Korea's nuclear ambitions "essential," adding:
They have not only been a useful forum for the participants who deal with the challenge of North Korea's nuclear program, but the other issues that are part of the North Korean agenda."
- The group Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies delivered a letter signed by 2,200 foreign policy employees to Hillary Clinton yesterday encouraging her to extend full partnership benefits to same sex partners of State Department employees. Currently, same sex partners are entitled to limited language training and security training seminars, but are not entitled to travel expenses, mail privileges, visa assistance, employment opportunities or emergency evacuation assitance at embassies the way heterosexual spouses and families of Foreign Service officers are.
- Clinton today sought to refute some of the rumors about infighting (or the potential for infighting) within the Obama administration. When asked about how the many strong personalities in the adminstration are working together, she said:
I think we have already established a collegial, effective working relationship," she said. "Maybe it's because the people you've just named ... and I are committed to the same goal, and that is to ensure that the president's policies are effectively carried out."
- Heather Mills, the ex-wife of former Beatle Paul McCartney, said that she takes some of her strength in the face of public criticism from "her friend" Hillary Clinton.
I’ve watched my friend Hillary Clinton go through a hell of a time and still come out on top due to her strength.”

that quick study line was
that quick study line was so patronizing. She was asked a question and answered flawlessly as she usually does. It certainly wasn't because of OBAMA, or something she would ever have to learn. what is up with this writer?
Haha @ Heather Mills. She
Haha @ Heather Mills. She wishes she had a friend like Hillary!
I am looking forward to this daily news roundup
on this State Department blog. It's very informative. Thanks for your hard work.
However, I agree with the first poster. Whether intended or not, this line is demeaning and an unnecessary dig at Secretary Clinton.
"I guess she really has picked up the No-Drama Obama mantra pretty quickly! Everyone did say she is a quick study."
Oh man, like Megan was so
Oh man, like Megan was so hard to spot. A run of the mill hillary hater, obama backside sniffer:
http://www.glamour.com/sex-love-life/blogs/glamocracy/2008/02/the-claws-and-nader-come-out.html
"Clinton's Claws Increasingly annoyed that butter appears not to melt in Obama's mouth, Clinton's campaign turned up the heat this week, hoping to either get him to get down off his pedestal or find something negative that would stick. From sending funny pictures of him to getting sarcastic about his slightly too-hopeful messaging to claiming that a weeks-old flyer on her health campaign was "going negative," the Clinton camp struggles to bring Obama's surge to a slow crawl. Will it work this time? Or is Clinton's new "strategy" team just throwing up everything they can think of in their wine-soaked depressive states?
Obama's Response Hey, did you know that President Clinton passed NAFTA? And that Hillary kind of liked it when she wasn't running for President? For someone whose opponent says he never talks about the issues Obama certainly manages to do so when she's bashing him for being too inspirational."
deleting this junk from favorites and will tell others to do the same.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention
Anne,
Thanks for that link above to the anti-Hillary post which Megan Carpentier had originally posted in Glamour during the primaries. How is it that an anti-Hillary Obama supporter is now a chief blogger on a blog that professes to be "all about Hillary"? Can you say "Admin. spin"?
I do believe, though, that true Hillary supporters should continue to come over here and attempt to keep this blog honest. Hillary deserves no less.
Clinton hate
Clinton hate has launched many, many media careers.Really it's like joining the mob. You can't consider yourself "made" in the business until your made your bones with that first Clinton slam piece. I expect any expensive set up like this site to get in digs at Hillary. It's what it's here for
Let's not accept that
If this blog is going to get catty and "get in digs at Hillary", then a strong Clintonista presence is needed here to counter that. Let's not accept snide comments about Hillary on this blog. That's NOT what this blog should be here for. Let's keep them honest, like I said before.
but that IS what this blog is
but that IS what this blog is here for, or at least for Megan. I'm not sure if carolyn ohara put it here for that purpose, does anyone know where she stands on the hillary hate? Pretty ridiculous to make megan, an obot/hillary hater the writer. Can you imagine if 0 were SOS and the foreign policy board put a puma in charge? i do not see why these so-called liberals will do anyhitng to keep women with conviction as far down as they can. Read the rest of those Megan blogs on hillary from Glamour, it's pretty pathetic. To the point that they are actually making things up in the blog to trash hillary. Why not just find someone who can be at least honest and less biased against the subject.
NYCgirl is right
We need to keep an eye on these posts and make corrections. It is Spin-Central for Hillary in her new position, and we need to keep it honest.
Anne and Still4Hill, I agree
Anne and Still4Hill,
I agree with both of you. This blog needs writers with serious PRO-HILLARY credentials in order to make any sense at all if they are intending to attract an audience of Hillary supporters. And if they don't get new blog writers, then we need to be ever-vigilant to make sure that they are called on it every single time if they bash Hillary or insinuate against her or Bill.
Now that Hill is moving onto the international stage, who knows how many folks around the world will be searching out news on our Madam Secretary. If they end up here and they read snide blog entries, I want to be sure that there are plenty of Clintonistas commenting on the noise and setting the record straight.
